INTERIOR SPACE - PORTFOLIO
concept+design+realisation

I am both a space designer and builder, with a significant bias towards the ‘art’ of architecture. After the pleasures of the concept and the development of the design, come the adventures of the site, an integral part of which is the evolution, interpretation, and enrichment of the designed proposal. I run, oversee, and construct the project, working with a small regular team, covering all fields of the work through to its conclusion.

My task in relationship to a client, is to respond not just to their requests, those of form, function, or aesthetic, but also to uncover the ideas and aspirations that are not immediately apparent, as well as coming to understand the manner of a client’s personal interactions with their environment, both individually and collectively. Through an extended discourse, a more comprehensive brief may be developed, and a project realised, that is as much a part of the clients’ participation, as it is of my design.

The fabric of a space is defined by the surfaces of its extents, the adventure lead by those extents, and the light that informs the volume. The detailed considerations of this, are those of materials, of textures, and of colour; they are of the mood and the experience of a shifting perspective; they are to identify a subject, and then to position the poem; they are the context of a space, and its relation to the environments on to which it might open.

In responding directly a given building or an interior volume, my considerations are both empathetic and reactionary. There is the opportunity to expand the confines of what exists, and to recreate an alternative theatre of space and use, enlarging the perception of the architecture by discovery, intrigue, and surprise.
